What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?

Orton-Gillingham instruction is an approach (not a reading program) that adheres to the principles of Structured Literacy to help dyslexics with reading, spelling, and writing skills.  Structured Literacy is beneficial to all students.  The O-G saying, “It helps most and harms no one.”  All lessons are created for each student in a 1:1 learning environment.

The Elements of an Effective Orton-Gillingham Approach:

Phonology
Phonemic Awareness
Sound-Symbol Correspondence (Orthography)
Morphology
Syllable Work
Writing:  Syntax and Semantics

Informal assessments in the above areas to create a profile of a student’s strengths and weaknesses.  (Ipads and computers are not used during instruction.)
